How to confirm your domain points to the new server
Solution

During the transfer of websites from the old servers to the new servers they may be a period of a few hours where the domain names are still pointing to the old server. If you update your website during this period, any changes you make will not appear when the domain names are pointing to the new server.

To check that the domain names are now pointing to the new servers please follow these steps:

XP USERS:

  1. Click the Start button and then select Run
  2. Type in the word command and click OK
  3. This will open up a small black window containing a flashing cursor
  4. Type in the following command:

    ping www.yourdomain.com
  5. After a brief period you will get several replies from the server  saying:

    Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
  6. If the reply from number is 94.136.39.xxx then your domain is pointing to the new server and you can continue editing your website
  7. If the reply from number is 81.21.79.xxx then your domain is pointing to the old server still
  8. At the cursor, type Exit and press return to close the window
